2. Paul Bunyan Days. The C& C has agreed to step in and help the PBD’s committee in soliciting for prizes for the Treasure Hunt. The Treasure hunt sells 500 maps at $3.00 each bringing in $1500. If there are not enough donations for every map sold the PBD’s committee in the passed has gone out and purchased $750. worth of prizes so everyone gets a prize. Akeley Civic & Commerce Meeting

February 8th, 2010

Held at Wick’s Wood Products

Meeting called to order at 5:38 pm by Don Wicks.

Present: Mike & Kathy Duclos, Don & Kathy Wicks, Josh & Kari Kietzman, Nels Kramer, Lee Johnson, Troy Hegg, Em Tufts, Waleya from Pesha’s & Bob Guelker from the Northwoods Press

Secretaries Report: Approved.  Nels made a motion to approve the minutes and Kari seconded.

Treasurers Report: None available

Old Business: No old business

New Business:

1. Hay Days will be Friday & Saturday Sept. 17th & 18, 2010

2. 1st Annual Fish Fry will be March 19th @ Akeley VFW from 5pm to 7pm or until gone.  Flyers are going up.

3. Lee Johnson gave an update on the Paul Bunyan Days Committee. Right now as it stands the committee has not met. Burned out committee members, lack of donated funds and fresh help are some of the reasons. An informational meeting will be held in the next week or so.

4. Em & Waleya gave a presentation of their new ideas for Akeley. Waleya has made up a flyer of businesses in Akeley and their phone #’s. Other possibilities are to have a business card coupon or a coupon book with the idea of putting these around the County and having Gregg hand them out at the Campgrounds this summer. One other point made was to have all organizations, businesses and concerned citizens work together toward a common goal.

Results of the suggestions buckets that Em & Waleya put out around town were read. The main comments were to enforce the city ordinance for junky yards, to fill the empty building with new businesses and sperate liquor store on sale & off sale. Have a seperate building for off sale.

Also discussed was the tax fairness for businesses with a commercial building vs. the many businesses working out of their home. Should these home businesses be taxed as a business or a homestead. All but one owner of the Commercial businesses in town live out of town so they have no say or vote at the City Council.

Adjourment: Josh made a motion to adjourn and Kari seconed.

Next meeting will be March 8th, 2010 @ 5:30pm at Wicks Wood Products. Anybody is welcome to attend.

Kathy Duclos

Secretary
